Today I had to estimate some work for a new project. Nothing fancy. I have experience with this particular kind of work so I can easily tell how much time it may take me. But, being a freelancer means I usually have more than one project on my plate. I am ok with that; I have something to work on while I wait for feedback. The inconvenience is that today I had to give an ASAP estimation. Headache followed.
This is what I need form my project management software: to spare me from headaches. And it's quite simple. Here is the workflow. I add a new project, insert my to-dos plus their estimates. Then, the software should magically tell me when I can finish that work.
Actually it's not magic. It has my track record of how many hours I work per day, how good an estimator I am and how much work I have to do next(for this project and others). Sum all work hours, apply an estimation correction, divide by the daily work average.
Software: "You have a chance to finish this project in 15 work days." Me: "Thanks!"
